Yoga, Drama, & Dance

In Yoga, students develop their own strength, self-regulation, and concentration. Traditional yoga poses from sun salutations are taught as well as many child friendly positions to help students explore their flexibility and learn how to focus and relax properly. General mindfulness and meditation is also introduced as we believe that stilling the mind is just as important as stimulating it.

In Columbia’s drama program, students learn how to bring characters and settings to life. All the while they are developing skills such as working cooperatively as a group and speaking clearly and expressively to an audience. At the end of the term, these skills are put on display through a production for parents and students.

The dance program at Columbia uses imagery, rhythm, tempo, and problem solving to teach children about their bodies. More importantly, it also enables students to use movement as a vehicle for creative self-expression, while developing a greater sense of confidence.
