At Columbia, our goal is to use technology to empower students, encouraging them to become independent, twenty-first century learners. In Lower School this begins in Second Grade as we help students develop good habits with technology. Beyond general handling of the devices, students also learn simple graphics and animation skills and begin to study basic programming concepts through the use of coding games and apps. In Third and Fourth Grade, students have more access to computers, both in the lab and in their classrooms. This is when they begin learning topics such as 3D design, video editing, robotics, touch typing and more. By recognizing, expanding, and applying their own knowledge of technical skills, it’s our goal for each student to become more active in his or her own learning.
