Grammar School

The children in our care in CGPS’s Grammar School are each distinct and extraordinary learners. We treasure their individuality, and the Grammar School prides itself in meeting each student where they are and challenging them to test their limits. Our faculty helps your child develop into the most fully realized version of themselves. At CGPS, your child is known and seen by the experienced, empathetic educators who are part of our famously warm and welcoming community. Our Grammar School is a family — we invite parents into the School each day to join their children for our family breakfast. We also have extensive before- and after-school programming, much of it included in the tuition, that allows parents maximum flexibility and provides children with time to learn, play and create outside of traditional school hours.

During the school day, CGPS is an oasis of balance and student-centered learning. Kids are happiest and learn best when they build strong relationships with teachers and classmates, which our students do in small groups focused on language, reading readiness and problem-solving skills. Our programs are designed by subject coordinators, overseen by our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and come to life in the hands of our teachers, who work in collaboration to amplify their impact on students.

Our textured student body comprises students from different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives who enhance our community immeasurably. We encourage our students to take age-appropriate risks academically, artistically and athletically. We inspire our students to pursue their passions and interests with the encouragement and support of our dedicated, creative and highly-educated faculty.

Our Grammar School provides our students with the foundation, curiosity and academic preparedness they will need to succeed and thrive throughout their Middle and Prep School years at CGPS and beyond. Our students leave our Grammar School ready and excited to take on the academic challenges of our Middle School.

Warm regards,

Social & Emotional and Academic Competencies

Underlying all academic learning are core social and emotional competencies and academic competencies. Sometimes called “21st Century Skills,” these skills are in fact not new at all. They form the foundation of all learning. We believe that in order to be successful in and out of school, students need to learn a set of social and emotional competencies (cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy and self-control) and a set of academic competencies (academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors). At CGPS, these skills are explicitly taught, assessed and interwoven into all learning areas.

our core values

At CGPS, our five core values are the pillars that define curricular, extracurricular and social-emotional life for our community.

Balance

Curiosity

Excellence

Integrity

Unity
