Student Musicians Earn Top Ratings at NYSSMA Solo Festival
Dr. Kary Haddad, Middle and Prep School Music Department Head

21 CGPS Middle and Prep School students participated in this year's New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival. The festival was conducted virtually this year and to participate, each student learned and recorded a performance of a challenging piece of repertoire from an approved list. Instrumentalists were also required to submit a video demonstrating proficiency in playing major scales. An expert judge then provided detailed feedback and awarded them a festival rating. Levels 1-4 solos can be evaluated as "Needs Improvement," "Good," "Excellent" or "Outstanding." Levels 5-6 solos are evaluated using letter grades.

We're proud to say that each of our participating students at Levels 1-4 earned "Excellent" or "Outstanding" ratings, and each of our Levels 5-6 students earned an A or A+ rating! Congratulations to these students for their well-earned success!
