Queer Straight Alliance Recognizes Allies at 8th Annual Alliance Awards
Marquis Austin

On Tuesday, June 2, the Columbia Prep Queer Straight Alliance hosted its eighth annual Alliance Awards. Commonly known as the QSA’s Oscars, the event honors members of the School community who support the QSA and its efforts. “Some insane stuff is going on right now, and we wanted to give our School community a chance to take a step back from all the chaos and acknowledge some students and teachers,” stated Cas G-H ’21, who hosted the ceremony alongside EstherGrace Devens ’20. Some of this year’s Alliance Award recipients include MD H. ’23 for Artist Ally, Laila R. ’24 for Athlete Ally, English teacher John Bailin for Teacher Ally and Justin G. ’22 for Student Ally. “The queer community has been one of the most welcoming and loving groups of people I have ever met,” said Justin during his acceptance speech. “I love you. You’re such an important part of our School.” Congratulations to this year’s winners and thank you to the QSA for putting on a fantastic ceremony.
