MS and PS Art Department Head Lynn Schulte Honored by the Academy for Teachers

The Academy for Teachers recently selected Middle and Prep School Art Department Head Lynn Schulte to attend “Maus: The Backstory,” a selective and prestigious master class led by Art Spiegelman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning illustrator. The Academy for Teachers recognizes and champions New York’s exceptional educators by matching them with distinguished experts and scholars for master classes in their field. In the past, Ms. Schulte has nominated her colleagues for the honor–such as technology teacher Melanie Royster–and is now receiving the merited recognition herself.

The president of the Academy for Teachers, Sam Swope, said that Ms. Schulte’s acceptance is a “well-deserved honor”; only eighteen teachers are selected to participate in each class. Ms. Schulte’s acceptance also designates her as a Fellow of the Academy of Teachers, granting her access to the Academy’s professional development scholarships, fellowships and workshops in addition to free admission to the Academy’s concerts, plays and lectures.

Ms. Schulte is excited to have received this honor from the Academy for Teachers. She says, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to attend this master class with Art Spiegelman and so grateful that our School supports this program. He remains a revolutionary artist who has brought comics to a profound new level, and I look forward to learning more about his processes and philosophy as a storyteller in this growing medium. Of course, I am also so excited to share what I learn with my students!”

Congratulations, Ms. Schulte!
