Students Explore Songwriting, Wireless Communications and More as Part of "June Term"
Ruth Kornblatt-Stier

During the last week of school, the Middle School participated in June Term, a two-day intensive where students took creative and specialized courses of their choosing. The incredible MS teachers designed these imaginative workshops to enrich students’ educational experiences as they close out the school year. Middle School Director Paul Baly described the deep enthusiasm for the workshops, saying, “Students’ excitement for June Term was only matched by their deep engagement during the week.” Some of the fabulous courses offered included Songwriting Intensive, Central Park Exploration and Design, A Virtual Trip to Jamaica and Ghana and The Vikings and the Norse Gods. Explaining the philosophy behind June Term, Mr. Baly said, “Intrinsic motivation and drive relies on autonomy, and we know both from research and our own observations that our students are most engaged and display a sense of joy when they are doing what they love. June Term allowed our faculty to share their interests with students and it gave the students the power of choice."
