CGPS Makes a Difference on Columbia Cares Day

On Sunday, November 21, the School held its eighth annual Columbia Cares Day! Thanks to the community service efforts of our students and their families, CGPS is making a difference in the lives of families in need this holiday season. This year’s Columbia Cares Day produced the following:

Schoolwide

  • 44 families raised over $6,000 for the Turkey Challenge, which will provide 224 Thanksgiving meals for the West Side Campaign Against Hunger food pantry clients
  • Over 2000 sandwiches/brown-bagged lunches donated to NY Common Pantry 

  • Over 500 utensil kits donated to Goddard Riverside Community Center for their Thanksgiving meal delivery  

  • 250 cheery cards delivered to Goddard Riverside Community Center for their Thanksgiving meal delivery

  • 700 cookie bags donated to Goddard Riverside Community Center for their Thanksgiving meal delivery

  • 245 coats and accessories donated for distribution to 2 local schools in need

  • 300 reusable bags donated to NY Common Pantry and Goddard Riverside Community Center 

Grammar School

  • 3 families participated in the OneBlock clean up of the Upper West Side

Middle School

  • Created 24 cookie bags for homebound seniors who receive meals through Goddard Riverside 

  • 59 cheery cards for Goddard Riverside Community Center 

  • 300 utensil kits donated to Goddard Riverside Community Center 

  • 400 sandwiches prepared for New York Common Pantry

Prep School

  • 210 breakfast bags decorated with cheery messages and assembled for the Ronald McDonald House families who are traveling to NYC for their children's treatments at nearby hospitals (and 20 extra bags decorated for another day)

  • 245 coats and accessories sorted by size to distribute to 2 local schools in need

  • 103 utensil kits with holiday messages created for Goddard meal delivery to the elderly and homebound (plus more created in DIY fashion at home!)

  • 100s of FreshDirect Bags collected for NY Common Pantry and Goddard to help distribute food to our food-insecure neighbors

  • Approximately 75 sandwiches assembled for NY Common Pantry (plus more created in DIY fashion at home!)

GS and PS Students Connect in After 3 Social Club

This year, eight Prep Schoolers are volunteering in the Helping Hands program in order to help connect the Upper and Lower Schools. After finishing their classes, the Prep School volunteers help facilitate activities in the Grammar School's After 3 Social Club.
