On Sunday, June 12, Columbia Prep scholar-athlete Michael O. ’23 gave an impressive performance during the New York State Federation Boys Golf Championship. A prestigious tournament attracting the most talented high school golfers in New York, the goal of the competition is to crown a state champion. Each of New York’s four athletic associations—the Public High School Athletic Association, Public Schools Athletic League, Catholic High School Athletic Association and our very own Association of Independent Schools—host end-of-season tournaments to identify their top six players, who then go on to compete against the best of the best. Michael qualified for the event by placing third in the NYSAIS tournament with a stellar score of 73.
This year’s championship took place at Bethpage State Park on none other than the Black Course, a world-renowned golfing hotspot that has played host to multiple PGA Tour events and will continue to do so with the 2025 Ryder Cup. During the 18-hole stroke play bout, Michael demonstrated a masterful command of his craft, taking seventh place and cementing his status as one of the most promising high school-aged golf players in New York. As a top eight champion, the Prep School rising senior received a medal commemorating his excellence from the NYS Federation. Congratulations, Michael!
