CGPS Celebrates the Class of 2021 at Moving Commencement Ceremony
Marquis Austin

Last Thursday at Icahn Stadium, the Class of 2021 excitedly moved their tassels from right to left as they became proud graduates of CGPS. The beautiful ceremony included moving speeches from Head of School Dr. William M. Donohue, Prep School Director Joanie Dean, former NASA astronaut Dr. Mike Massimino and top-ranking seniors Celia Ginzburg, Natalie Pizer, Kareem DaCosta and Adrian Melendez. During his remarks, Dr. Massimino, who pushed past three rejections from NASA and overcame a disqualifying visual impairment on his way to becoming an astronaut, urged the seniors to pursue their dreams with grit and determination. “Whenever that passion hits you of what you want to do with your life, I would encourage you to go for it,” he said. “Don’t give up when you hit adversity because dreams do come true. It happened to me, so it can happen to you too.” In a rousing address, Celia encouraged her fellow graduates to be proud of who they are and always aim high regardless of what others may think, stating, “You own your own outcomes through your confidence in yourself.”
The community wishes each member of the Class of 2021 the best of luck as they embark on their post-CGPS journey, embracing these wise words. We cannot wait to see what these exceptional young leaders accomplish as they move on to the next chapters of their lives. Congratulations!
