Celebrating Our Students!
Ruth Kornblatt-Stier

This year, there hasn’t been a shortage of moments that made us proud of our students. As CGPS breaks for summer, we would like to highlight just a few of these moments and celebrate our students’ creativity and outstanding achievements.

In the Grammar School, students took home trophies in the Greater New York Scholastic Championships and the New York State Girls Chess Championships. Second graders explored wind energy by building their own kites, and other students created works of art inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Students greeted animals from across the world in an entertaining and educational virtual assembly, and the PK classes continued their annual tradition of Clifford Day.

In the Middle School, students and faculty came together every week for an energizing community homeroom filled with music and games called Fri-Yay. Acclaimed archaeologist and Stanford professor Dr. Patrick Hunt spoke with students about his fieldwork on the Punic Wars and Ötzi the Iceman. Student thespians gave a fantastic performance in their very own musical revue, Middle School: The Musical. Furthermore, 37 girls made the School proud in the Girls’ Adventures in Math competition, with fifth graders Sasha G., Phoebe L. and Natalie L. receiving gold medals.

In the Prep School, Advanced Science Research seniors Alex Lyons and Alex Sidorsky were announced as finalists at the Genius Olympiad, and student linguists earned top marks on the National Latin Exam. Theater aficionados wrote and performed an original professional-caliber musical, Break Out: A Hybrid Musical, about life as a student during COVID. In addition, the Prep School hosted Q&As with guests such as Columbia Law professor Gillian Metzger, Holocaust survivor Sara Leicht-Weinstein and Seinfeld writer and producer Peter Mehlman.

This is only a snapshot of what our students have managed to achieve this year. To view some more highlights, please click here.

Congratulations to everyone, and enjoy your well-deserved summer vacation!
