Middle Schoolers Engage in Debate on Alexander the Great

Last Wednesday, November 18, students in Alison Giovanni's seventh grade history class engaged in a thrilling debate on whether Alexander the Great is a hero or villain. In preparation, students studied primary and secondary sources on Greek culture, government, religion and war, exploring Alexander's path to power and the historical context surrounding it.

Prep School Theater Department Puts On Stunning Virtual Production

Last Thursday and Friday, the Prep School theater and dance department mesmerized the School with their moving fall virtual production, RIGHT NOW. While putting on a virtual production was a new and challenging experience for them, the Prep School's talented theater students succeeded in completing their goal — bringing the CGPS community together during a time when connection is more valued than ever.

Columbia University Law Professor Gillian Metzger Meets With Students and Faculty

Last Wednesday, the Prep School welcomed a special guest: Columbia Law School professor, constitutional law scholar and CGPS parent Gillian Metzger. Recently, Professor Metzger co-authored a piece for The New York Times, “Her Black Coffee Always Brewed Strong,” about her time as a law clerk for the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

MS Band and Orchestra Students Have Fun Making Music

The CGPS Middle School Band and Orchestra lesson program has been a signature part of the division since it opened, giving students the opportunity to study and practice an instrument as a formal, scheduled part of their school day. While students and teachers have had to make a few adjustments this year, the lesson program is still going strong!

On November 20, the Prep School's Environmental Club hosted another virtual guest speaker. Daniel Rubin shared his work as acting director for the Global Livingston Institute. GLI is a non-profit organization, run primarily in Uganda and Rwanda, that aims to educate, empower and improve communities by listening to stakeholders on a local level and building international partnerships to help meet their needs.
