History Teacher

Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a full-time History teacher to teach a combination of 8th-Global, 9th-U.S. or 10th-Modern Global (two sections of any two). 

Qualifications

  • M.A. in History or related discipline preferred 
  • Ability to adapt instruction to fit physically distanced, hybrid, and remote learning environments
  • Run well-managed, meaningful, and engaging classes
  • Two years experience teaching at the high school level preferred

Responsibilities 

  • Teach two sections of two of the following: 8th, 9th, or 10th
  • Meet regularly with grade-level cohort to plan curriculum
  • Provide meaningful, individualized student feedback and support
  • Work closely with colleagues, department head, and prep school administration to support the academic, social, and emotional well being of all students
  • Write well-written, thoughtful semester reports for each student

Work Hours

  • 7:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday
  • Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30pm
  • Start date: August, 2021

Chemistry Teacher

Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a full-time Chemistry teacher to teach Chemistry and a Forensic Science elective course.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline. An Education degree is preferred.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to fit physically distanced, hybrid, and remote learning environments.
  • Run well-managed, meaningful, and engaging classes for high school students.
  • Experience teaching at the high school level is preferred.


Responsibilities 

  • Teach sections of Chemistry (10th grade level) and Forensic Science (10th-12th grades).
  • Run engaging and well managed lab activities.
  • Manage the inventory of chemical substances and laboratory equipment.
  • Provide meaningful, individualized feedback and support to students.

Specific Responsibilities

● Teach one class or small groups of students in Pre-K or Kindergarten 
● Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year 
● Develop teaching skills in preparation for being a Head Teacher 
● Support students by providing one-on-one and small group instruction daily, and small group intervention and student support 
● Observe Head Teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management
● Meet regularly with a coach and receive formal observations 
● Help with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities
● Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues 
● Supervisory responsibilities including lunchroom coverage and escorting children to and from special classes 

Qualifications

● Currently working towards, or having recently completed a Masters Degree in Education
● Interest / experience with early childhood pedagogy 
● Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with CGPS’s mission and values
● Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom
● Evidence of self-motivation, willingness to be a team player, and has a strong sense of personal responsibility

Work Hours

7:45am to 3:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 7:45am to 4:30pm on Thursday

The Permanent Substitute is also responsible for enforcing school rules, setting up materials, and carrying out duties during the course of the school day. Under the direction of the administration, the Permanent Substitute may assist students one-on-one or in small groups and monitor classes where teachers are remote.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist students in and out of the classroom

  • Supervise lunchroom and recesses and other duties

  • Participate or provide data on students and document observations about student behavior

  • Support students by providing one-on-one and small group intervention and student support

  • Communicate proactively and professionally about students with teaching and non-teaching staff bearing in mind the impact of confidentiality regarding vulnerable persons

  • Support the school’s culture and practices for inclusion

  • Conduct all work activities in a professional manner

  • Demonstrate commitment to working in a school community


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Flexible to assist the teachers in their duties

  • Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Hourly: 8:30-1:30 or Full-Time: 7:45-4:00 Monday-Friday
