Prep School

To me, there is no place like Columbia Prep. I have been a part of this institution for more than twenty-five years, and it is with absolute confidence that I encourage you to get to know our program, our facilities, our faculty, and our learning environment. We are and always have been a school with a mission and a sense of responsibility. Consequently, we have a reputation of which we are very proud.

The facilities are outstanding. Our two modern buildings, one of which has just been completed, contain two libraries, up-to-date science labs, five art studios, two computer Labs, a cafeteria, a multipurpose theater, a spacious gymnasium, vocal and instrumental music rehearsal rooms, and an abundance of classroom space. In addition, we share a beautiful swimming pool with the Grammar School.

We are even prouder of our academic program and our faculty. Columbia Prep's requirements in the traditional fields of English, history, mathematics, science, and foreign language are demanding, as is expected of a leading college preparatory school, yet the atmosphere is warm and supportive. We offer an array of intriguing and challenging electives. Recently, these have included The Outcast and Downtrodden in 19th Century America, a Literature class; The Future of Democracy, a social science course sponsored by the Experimental College at Tufts University; and Human Evolution, offered by our science department.

Perhaps Columbia Prep's most striking feature is its relaxed and caring environment, appreciated by students and teachers alike. Classes are small - seventeen at most, and usually smaller - and we maintain a level of support and concern that helps students excel and that our parents repeatedly identify as the key to our success. Students and teachers truly share the responsibility of learning. The teacher endeavors to make the Columbia Prep experience exciting and intellectually challenging, a step beyond the usual classroom experience. And the student responds by giving his or her best.

Our reputation is based on over two hundred years of excellence in education. I hope you will give us the pleasure of showing you how Columbia maintains this tradition today.
